Long hours inputting data can have a detrimental effect on. our health and well-being so it is important to look after yourself. One of the most frequent complaints from long term computer users is that they suffer problems with their back and joints. This is caused by one of two reasons.
The first is incorrect posture.
Do you slouch over the computer, or maybe, you relax in a comfy armchair with your laptop balanced precariously on your knee? This is a recipe for future back and joint trouble. There is an ideal position for posture when working long hours data inputting. You need a straight back, the elbow should make a ninety degree angle to the body and the hands should rest slightly above the keyboard.
Secondly, the type of chair you sit in when doing home data entry has a great bearing on posture. Leaning forward puts a strain on the neck muscles and upper back while slouching back in a too soft chair curves the spine and causes lower back problems. When funds allow, consider buying an ergonomic chair. In fact, if you are a regular computer user, you should make this one of your first priorities.
It is important to take regular breaks and do stretching exercises to avoid stiffness of the joints.
Diet is also important when working from home in a data entry job. Avoid too much caffeine. Although a little stimulation is good for you, too much caffeine tends to make the mind race and mistakes can happen. Likewise with any caffeine based drink such as Cola or Red Bull. Too much of these and you will find it hard to sleep or relax once your days work is complete.
Heavy meals can make you tired and lethargic so smaller regular meals are better than one big dinner at the end of the day. Drink plenty of water too, to keep the body free of toxins and keep the mind alert.
Exercises you can do include twisting the neck slowly clockwise then counter clockwise to keep the neck joints and muscles in shape. Stretch your legs and avoid having the backs of you knees from resting on the front of your chair as this can reduce circulation to the legs and cause cramps.
As with any kind of repetitive job, it is important that you follow a few common sense rules which will make your working life easier and safeguard your health.
Working at home in a data entry job should be regarded as just that, an at home job with all the relevant health and safety issues taken care of, just as a home data entry employer would if you worked for them at their office.
