Data Entry Work From Home
If you're doing data entry work from home, people will waste your time.
It's a strange fact of life that as soon as we announce to our family and friends that we are doing data entry working from home, it becomes a matter of life and death that they contact us. Distractions are what we don't need if we have a head full of data that we are trying to input onto our computer, the main reason being we need to earn money.
There seems to be a commonly held belief that working from home is not a \“proper\” job and actually, we can work when we want and it is OK for our nearest and dearest and our friends too to interrupt us at any time they please.
Some distractions cannot be avoided, the mail man who has a parcel which must be signed for. The electricity company is another. If we have another family member at home then they can deal with the problem but if they are out at work it is down to us.
Distractions seem to become more noticeable when we don;t want them so we have to work out strategies to avoid distractions as much as we can.
Be firm.
Explain to your friends that the work you are doing is helping to feed your family and between certain hours, they will not be able to reach you. The same goes for family members. It may seem harsh but this is your livelihood we are talking about here and if you are earning money then that has to come first. Your friends will come to understand you are serious if you don't answer the door when they call. If they complain then ask them if they are going to reimburse you for the money you have just lost. If they take offence at this then they can't be much of a friend.

Switch it off. If something is that critical the caller will leave a message on your voice mail. Likewise with your house phone. After a while, you will realise what a wonderfully liberating experience not to be tied to someone else who wants to call you to relieve their own boredom.
As I said before, if it is important enough then the will leave a message. Surprising how so few of my friends do. Another advantage is that you get rid of those annoying sales messages that get you running around to the phone only to find someone trying to sell you something that you don't want and certainly don't need.
So remember, the time you do your data entry work from home is your time and you have to make sure others respect it.
